Creating Your Life Map - Part Two: Arranging and Organizing the Details of Your Story

How did the brainstorming step go for you? I did it again as the last time I completed a life map was in 2006!  A lot has changed and shifted in my life since then so it was good to update it.

The next step in the life map process is to figure out how you'd like to order all of the post-it notes/your life information. I'm going to let you decide how you'd like to display and order the bits and pieces of your life so it works for you. It should be chronological and most often people order in columns. Some organize by year of life, some by education level/grade, some by life stages—it's up to you—whatever works best for YOU.

You will need a large sheet of paper to fit all of these notes on so that's where you will start. Once you have the paper, start arranging the post-it notes on the paper in the columns you have picked out.  You can label the columns for a better visual effect as you look at the life map. This could take a little bit of time, so this is the only step I'm going to give for today.

The next step will involve a little more heart digging on your part so I want to keep that step separate.  I'll be back in a few days with instructions for the next step. You will need different color post-it notes for the next step if you want to gather some so you are prepared.

Happy Life Mapping!
